The visit usually starts with a conversation. Many diagnostic and electrical fault checks can be completed on a driveway, outside a workplace or at another safe location with enough room to access the vehicle. The main benefit is simple: you do not have to take time off, arrange recovery or risk driving a car that may not be safe.

If the car will not start because of a flat battery, charging issue, immobiliser fault or sensor-related problem, getting it to a garage may be the hardest part. Make sure the vehicle is accessible and that the mechanic has the key. If possible, leave enough space around the car and avoid booking in a place where the vehicle cannot be inspected safely.
